Since coming to New Orleans in May of 2003, Michael's been working on that sound he sought in Maputo. By laying multiple tracks of guitars and percussion, he's developed songs rooted in the Texas songwriting tradition with an emphasis on rhythm.

Borrowed
Michael on the song:
"This is the first song I wrote living in New Orleans. Through nights sitting on my Uptown doorstep, I ended up with a familiar picture in my mind. There was a simple drawing that I once gave someone who was close to me. Without knowing what happened to that person or the drawing, I had to bring them both to New Orleans in the song.
"Before I came here, I found one far away morning, watching the sun burn the early fog off the high grass, a great comfort in the movement slowly revealed there in the reeds. This song describes changes, observations, needs, and actions, all borrowed from that movement."
