Michael Hornsby, pictured at left with firearm, first started playing music as a teenager, using a very poorly made but somehow adequate fake ID to gain access to some of Houston's least renowned music venues such as the Boatyard and Woodie's.
Born in Newport News, Virginia, but living in Texas since infancy, his early influences included Fat Albert and, much later, Texas songwriters Robert Earl Keen, James McMurtry, Steve Earle, Lyle Lovett, Jerry Jeff Walker, and Townes Van Zandt. Michael and close friend, Charles Lawrence, played and wrote together for the last of his years in Houston when not escaping to Austin to hear their heroes perform.
